Our Mission
At Abilities Occupational Therapy Inc., our mission is to provide compassionate, evidence-informed occupational therapy services for people of all ages and abilities. We help each client build skills, overcome barriers and participate more fully in the activities that bring meaning, purpose and independence to everyday life.
Our Philosophy
We believe every person has unique strengths, priorities and potential. Effective occupational therapy begins by listening- understanding what matters to the individual, recognizing the challenges they face and working together toward practical, meaningful goals.
Our personalized approach considers the whole person, including their abilities, environment, routines and life circumstances. Whether someone wants to return to work, regain independence, participate in family life or develop new skills, we provide respectful support tailored to their needs.
Our Story
Since 2019, Abilities Occupational Therapy has proudly served individuals and families throughout Edmonton and across Alberta.
The clinic was founded by Rubina Dhanji, an occupational therapist with more than 20 years of experience. Rubina established Abilities Occupational Therapy to help address the community’s need for high-quality, individualized occupational therapy delivered with professionalism, compassion and respect.
Since then, Abilities OT has continued to grow while remaining committed to its founding purpose: helping people participate in the activities that matter most to them.
We’re Here to Support You
Life can change after an illness, injury or diagnosis. Everyday activities that once felt familiar may become tiring, frustrating or uncertain. Our occupational therapists take the time to understand these changes and help clients find practical ways to move forward.
We support people living with the effects of brain injuries, strokes, cardiac conditions and serious injuries as they develop or relearn skills for:
- Work and productive activity
- Personal care and household routines
- Recreation and leisure
- Community participation
- Safe, independent daily living
Our Pediatric Occupational Therapy services support children who may experience developmental delays, physical challenges, learning differences, sensory-processing needs, or emotional and behavioural difficulties. We can also help families explore strategies, adaptive equipment and technology that may improve a child’s comfort, confidence and participation at home, at school and in the community.
For individuals whose health or abilities may affect driving, we provide comprehensive driving evaluations designed to support informed decisions about safety and independence. We also assess the need for adaptive driving equipment, including:
- Left-sided gas pedals
- Hand controls
- Spinner knobs
- Other vehicle adaptations based on individual needs
At every stage, our goal is to provide thoughtful, personalized care that respects your circumstances and supports the life you want to lead.
You don’t have to navigate these challenges alone. Connect with our compassionate Edmonton occupational therapy team to learn how Abilities Occupational Therapy can support you or someone you care about.
